Imagine beautiful formal gardens, ancient live oak trees and a beachfront park all nestled into one dreamy location known as Washington Oaks Gardens State Park. This alone makes this Florida State Park the perfect location for photos on any occasion. Enjoy some photographs of a recent engagement session in this beautiful state park.
In 1937, Mr. Owen Young and his wife Louise bought the property and utilized it as a winter retreat for many years. In 1938, they built a house on the property facing the Mantanzas River where they spent much of their time relaxing along the water’s edge and fishing. When Mr. Young passed in 1964, his wife donated the property to the State of Florida. Thus, became the land we know today as Washington Oaks Gardens State Park.
This beautiful Florida State Park is open to the public 365 days a year, closing at sundown each evening. Washington Oaks Gardens provides so many different opportunities for unique photographs and experiences. Whether you want to stroll through the rose gardens or have a picnic in the park, options are endless. Maybe you want to do an early evening photography session and then partake in the hiking trail and eat dinner along the Matanzas River. Bicycling, birdwatching, hiking, fishing and picnicking are all welcomed at the gardens.
The centerpiece of the park is undeniably the Washington Oak. Estimated to be nearly 300 years old it has stood the test of time, withstanding hurricane force winds and flooding. The beautiful gardens in the park are well known for their azaleas, camellias and roses. They create the dreamiest backdrop for photos. While the formal gardens and majestic oak are the centerpiece of the park, the State Park is also famous for its beautiful and unique coquina rock formations that line the Atlantic Ocean.
